As most of you know, I love pairing wine with food. I got such great feedback from my Thanksgiving offerings that I decided to come up with some recommendations for the most common winter holiday meals as well!
Roast Turkey: Opt for a medium-bodied white wine like a Chardonnay (preferably not oaked) or a Viognier. For red wine lovers, a Pinot Noir with its light tannins and fruity notes complements turkey without overpowering it.
Prime Rib or Beef Tenderloin: A rich, full-bodied red wine is your best bet. Consider a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Malbec, or a Bordeaux blend. These wines have bold flavors and structured tannins that match the hearty richness of beef.
Honey-Glazed Ham: If youāre not opposed to a sweeter wine, Riesling or a GewĆ¼rztraminer balances the ham with a hint of sweetness and acidity. If youāre not a sweet wine lover (Iām not) try a Grenache or Zinfandel, both red wines that will give you a fruity option.
Vegetarian Dishes: For dishes like mushroom risotto, roasted root vegetables, or nut roasts, a versatile Pinot Noir or a robust white like Chenin Blanc works beautifully.
